Long Overdue

I've been trying to get people to email me some pictures from our trip to GA before doing a new post, but that's not working & people are asking me for updates on Dwight. So...

He got to go home on Thursday! His doctors were pleased with how his white blood cell count was steadily increasing. However, he's been pretty sick to his stomach since he got home. May be an unfortunate side effect of the medicines for his leukemia. He has an appointment at his clinic on Thursday & they'll receive further instructions at that time.

A note about his type of leukemia, acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). When I was down there one of his nurses commented that about 10 years ago APL was the most deadly leukemia until a medication called atra was discovered/invented. It's a vitamin A compound. Now APL is the most treatable leukemia!

Mom went back to work the day we headed back to KY & she's been working every day since. They're alright & are staying really positive. All this is very different for Dwight, though. He's kinda homebound & not able to do any outside work, a totally different lifestyle for him! That may end up being the hardest thing.

I'm super glad we got to visit & Dwight had family/friend visitors in the hospital EVERY DAY. That is incredible! It was such a blessing to see family & especially church members love on my parents like that.

We also got to meet my new niece Ayla for the first time! She's almost nine months old & I'll get to see her again in June when we go to England! Mom & I also visited my friend Corin & her new baby Amarie at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, just across the street from Northside where Dwight was. I couldn't hold Amarie, but it was so nice to see her & give Corin a much deserved hug.

Thank you for the comments on the blog, emails & calls telling me you're praying for my family. I'm sorry if I'm slow to respond, but it's much appreciated!

Wait! I do have these pictures from Christian's first professional haircut at Pigtails & Crewcuts in west Cobb! He was just as squirmy for that lady as he is for me, only she was quicker!
